Parent Child Program
From infancy to preschool age, Montessori Gifted Prep promotes early development and provides a strong foundation for the critical first years of your child’s life. Our classes will help your child to achieve new milestones and will prepare him/her to easily overcome the life and learning challenges during each stage of growth.
The Parent Child Class is an introduction to the Montessori method for children and parents. The program fosters the child’s development through exploration of thoughtfully designed materials, aiding and refining the child’s language, motor, social-emotional and cognitive growth. Being in these classes and engaging in materials and activities such as puzzles, preparing food, and hand-washing, helps the child foster skills in independence, coordination and confidence.
Why Choose Montessori Gifted Prep's Parent Child Classes?
We believe there are three main motives that guide parents in selection of our school and our program:
• Separation anxiety
Many children have a subconscious fear of separation. When Maria Montessori was saying that the child who is 3 years old cannot think of the world without his mom to the same degree it applies to many parents today who’s world is focused heavily on their child. Especially this motive prevails among the first time parents.
Second motive is a distrust. We mean the distrust that is directed towards the people parents do not know, towards a new system or approach that is used by the school, towards the professionalism of the people. Especially it applies to Montessori Child Parent classes.
• Mindful Parenting
This is the third category of parents who we call “talented parents”. These are parents who see and understand the importance of providing a high quality early childhood education as setting the foundation for success of their child in the future. These parents want to take the initial steps towards learning about the Montessori pedagogy for their child at an early age.
Our classes meet the needs of parents from all these categories. Moreover, the simultaneous solution of parents’ challenges allow us to achieve much better results compared to the cases when each difficulty is addressed separately.
Who is the educator and when do classes start?
Join master Montessori Directress and teacher-trainer, Julie Eskenazi, for a 10 - week exploration of your infant/child’s development in a Parent/Infant - Parent/Child class offered this fall at Montessori Gifted Prep. These classes are designed for a small group of infants/children and their caregivers (parent, grandparent, nanny) on Tuesdays from 9:00 am – 10:30 am. With over 25 years of Montessori teaching experience for infants through age 6, Julie will guide you in discovering a deeper understanding of your child’s needs and capabilities related to development and will demonstrate how a Montessori classroom supports their growth and learning.
The aim of the Parent/infant - Parent/child (Pi-Pc) class is to serve as a bridge between home, family and school. The class is designed for the adult and the child (ages birth to 3 years) to attend together. Both partners experience what Montessori offers. Children are able to explore, discover and interact within a specially prepared Montessori environment that supports individual development, growth and independence. The adult deepens their understanding of their child. The weekly class includes time for individually selected work, music, snack and a group walk. Parent/Child classes also include a parent education component for sharing of observations, resources, discussions of topics of interest related to parenting, Montessori research and child development.
The class is offered once a week on Tuesday mornings. The Winter session will begin on January 11, 2022 and will run for 10 weeks. Drop-in classes are not available. Registration is first come-first served and capacity is limited.
When can my child start attending Montessori Parent Child classes?
We believe that the perfect time is when your child is 6 months old and above. At the end it is the parent’s choice but the upper age limit to attend this program would be 2 years old. A guardian must participate with your child.
When can my child start attending?
In our Parent Child classes the goal of the teacher is not to work directly with the child in the presence of the parents, but to work with your child through the parent. When the individual tasks are given the teacher will be presenting materials, setting the goals and demonstrating the results that she wants to achieve through the selected activity. Then you as a parent are expected to work independently with your child under the teacher’s guidance. Over time the objective for the child would be able to work independently under his/her parent’s guidance. Parent should be always next to the child and should be working together with her child.
Teachers work and educate parents how to properly work and teach their child. During the group lessons: such as warm-up activity, speech, language or physical exercise, parent should be performing the same activity as his/her child or help the child to do the activity demonstrated by the teacher. Mother/father should act as helper, mentor and be a source of inspiration to fuel their child with positive emotions and encouragement to work with materials or accomplish the activity demonstrated by teacher.
Where do we offer the classes?
Classes are conducted in the specially prepared educational environment within our Montessori School. Our facilities are fully equipped with all necessary educational activities and materials required for the children of that age.
